The Propeller Man

The Propeller Man promotional poster

Writers Lizzie Shannon-Little and Gerard Lewis will be at The Woodstock Bookshop on Friday 31 October from 6 - 7 pm to promote their new book The Propeller Man.

The book began in the depths of lockdown, as Lizzie and Gerard - trapped at home with a small baby - entertained themselves by writing a collection of poems inspired by their own separate experiences as children reading Dr Heinrich Hoffman's creepy collection of cautionary tales Der Struwwelpeter.

‘The Child who Wee’d in the Swimming Pool’ by Alexandra Ricketts

As they wrote these poems, the dark illustrative style of their friend Alexandra Ricketts' work was always in their mind. In 2024, the trio launched a Crowdfunder to raise the funds to self-publish the book. Thanks to their wonderful supporters, they smashed their target!

This event will be suitable for all ages (although perhaps not the very anxious). Guests are welcome to come in spooky Halloween fancy dress if they wish and there will be a prize for the best costume. Tickets are available from the bookshop and cost £3 for children and £5 for adults. This includes a soft drink and biscuit for children and mulled wine for adults. Pop in to the shop, email (info@woodstockbookshop.co.uk) or phone (01993 812760) to book.
